The Stress-Sugar Cycle in Perimenopause

I have a question for you today (fair warning, it's a little bit of a trap!).

Which comes first — the sugar, or the stress?

Honestly? It's kind of a trick question. Because in perimenopause, these two things feed into each other in a cycle that can leave you feeling exhausted, wired, and wondering why your body seems to be working against you.

The good news is — once you see the cycle, you can start to break it!

Here's what happens when you're stressed...

Your body releases cortisol and adrenaline (those classic fight-or-flight hormones). They flood your bloodstream with glucose, because your body genuinely believes you're in danger and needs energy fast.

But here's the thing — you're not actually running from a saber-toothed tiger.

You're managing your inbox, or your family, or your racing thoughts at 2am. So that blood sugar spike just... sits there. Over time, that pattern is one of the sneakiest drivers of insulin resistance and blood sugar issues that so many of us in perimenopause experience.

Now flip it around...

When you eat a lot of sugar or refined carbs, your blood sugar shoots up — and then crashes. And that crash? Your body reads it as a threat. So it sends out cortisol and adrenaline to save the day.

So sugar causes stress, and stress causes blood sugar spikes. Around and around we go.

Ready to break the stress sugar cycle?

My Blood Sugar Reset Cookbook (exclusively inside my Perimenopause Recipe Bundle!) is packed with recipes designed to help you balance your blood sugar, support your hormones, and feel good in your body again. 💚
