Can I share something that might change how you think about your skin? Most of us spend a lot of time (and money!) on what we put on our skin. Serums, creams, SPF, retinol. And while some of that has its place, there's a bigger picture that often gets missed entirely. Your skin is actually one of the best windows into what's happening insideyour body. Here's what that looks like: Gut health shows up on your face. Breakouts, redness, rashes, and irritation are often outward signs of internal inflammation, and the gut is one of the biggest drivers of that. Supporting your gut with fiber, probiotics, and healthy fats isn't just good for digestion. It's good for your skin. Sugar ages your skin faster than the sun. There's a process called glycation (where excess sugar binds to collagen proteins in the skin) that leads to fine lines, wrinkles, and that "tired" look that no amount of eye cream seems to fix. Keeping sugar as an occasional treat rather than a daily habit makes a real difference. Certain foods can actually protect you from UV damage. This one surprises people. Nutrients like beta-carotene and lycopene are stored in the layers of the skin, where they help buffer against UV damage. They're not a replacement for sunscreen but eating a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables every day will always work in your favor. Sleep is doing more for your skin than your night cream. During deep sleep, your body releases growth hormone and ramps up collagen production. That's when the real repair happens — firming, smoothing, reducing puffiness. Beauty sleep is not a myth! What you put on your skin goes into your body. This one tends to stop people in their tracks. Many skincare ingredients, including some found in everyday sunscreens and lipsticks, are classified as "forever chemicals," meaning they accumulate in the body over time. Good rule of thumb...never put anything on your skin that you wouldn't put in your mouth! The bottom line is this: chasing skin health with expensive topical products alone isn't getting to the root of anything. Skin health is whole-body health — and food is one of the most powerful tools you have! 💚 xoxo Kimberly |
